  • The Health Plan donated $300,000 to 12 local food banks in West Virginia through its Spirit of Giving campaign, giving each food bank $25,000 to support hunger relief.  WV News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Retro Reload is opening a new gaming venue on High Street today and will hold its grand opening on Jan. 17 with free play from 1-3 p.m. The venue offers hourly rental consoles and birthday party packages.  WDTV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • WVU is launching a mentorship program for first- and second-year first-generation college students on the Morgantown campus, where participants will be paired with experienced upperclassmen & faculty who share their background. Interested students must apply by Jan 14.  West Virginia University
  • WVU will host a dynamic webinar on Tuesday, Jan. 27 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Zoom to preview the new Workday system (a key part of the Business Modernization initiative) that will streamline human resource and financial tasks starting summer 2027.  West Virginia University

HEALTH NEWS

  • The American Red Cross is urging local people to donate blood during National Blood Donor Month — donation centers are open to help hospitals meet low supply needs. Local sites will accept donations throughout January.  WDTV

  • Cam Cook committed to West Virginia on Jan. 6 + his decision to join the local sports team is set to boost athletic opportunities in the community.  WDTV
  • WVU earned a 62-60 win over Cincinnati at Hope Coliseum Tuesday night with a clutch 3-pointer from Treysen Eaglestaff and a late shot by Honor Huff, marking Ross Hodge’s first Big 12 win as the team built early momentum and secured key rebounds.  The Dominion Post
  • WVU coach Rich Rodriguez has added Troy transfer wide receiver D.J. Epps to bolster the Mountaineers' receiver room — he chose WVU over Cincinnati to address special teams needs ahead of their game at Milan Puskar Stadium, marking the second portal addition.  The Dominion Post
  • WVU football officials updated the transfer portal on Tuesday, Jan. 6, indicating players are exploring transfer opportunities ahead of upcoming roster changes.  WDTV
  • Phil Sklar of the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum announced today that WVU’s canine mascot Musket will debut his own bobblehead on National Bobblehead Day. The limited release of 2,026 numbered figures costs $35 — $8 shipping.  The Dominion Post
