  • Public-private partnerships advanced development in 2025 as the county approved a new TIF district for East End Village, setting the stage for modern housing + retail along with broadband and infrastructure upgrades. HEALTH NEWS

  • State Secretary of Health said the federal rural healthcare initiative may bring new services to rural areas (including Morgantown) when federal funding is approved, with local clinics set to gain added support for better community care.  MetroNews
  • Vandalia Health welcomed the first baby of 2026 on Friday, Jan. 2. Hospital staff confirmed that both mother and baby are healthy, marking a joyful start to the new year.  WDTV

SPORTS NEWS

  • West Virginia Mountaineers are set to face third-ranked Iowa State at Hilton Coliseum this Friday at 9 p.m. The team, coming off a 19-day break and without key forward Brenen Lorient, will try to improve their road performance against the Cyclones, who remain undefeated & known for strong defense.  MetroNews
  • West Virginia men’s basketball fell 80-59 to No. 3 Iowa State in their Big 12 opener. The Mountaineers, missing key player Lorient due to injury, now stand at 9-5 as they prepare for upcoming home games against Cincinnati and Kansas.  The Dominion Post
  • Junior Carper Messerly has stepped into a starting role for the Mohigans (averaging over 15 points per game) as the team builds on their 6-1 season start after Kayli Kellogg’s injury. They will face Class AAA Nitro on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Rowdie Center.  The Dominion Post
  • The Mountaineers face a tough 2026 season as key players entered the transfer portal, leaving gaps at quarterback, running back and receiver positions.
