COMMUNITY NEWS

  • 2025 was busy for recreation in Monongalia County with new BOPARC leadership and park improvements. Marilla Park got a revamped aquatic facility, Mylan Park opened a new ice pavilion and KOA site, and future plans include enhanced trails, bike tracks & a new fairgrounds near Cassville.  The Dominion Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Morgantown will host public listening sessions on housing affordability policies. The sessions take place January 14 at 6 p.m. at Marilla Center in Marilla Park and January 22 at 6 p.m. at Woodburn Community Complex; feedback will inform a city council report in early 2026.  WDTV

SPORTS NEWS

  • WVU football running back Cyncir Bowers entered the transfer portal Wednesday morning, leaving the team with a sparse backfield for 2026. With new running backs coach Jay Boulware joining and several backs also in the portal, the team will add players+experience ahead of the season.  The Dominion Post
  • The Mountaineers scored 101 against Houston in their Big 12 opener and finished the break at 1-0. They face Kansas today — a tough team led by star guard S’Mya Nichols — as they aim to extend their win streak.  The Dominion Post
  • Two long-time Mountaineers — wide receiver Rodney Gallagher and defensive lineman Hammond Russell — will enter the transfer portal tomorrow when it opens in Morgantown, adding to a series of departures as the team adjusts its roster.  The Dominion Post
